X One Design The X One Design was designed by Alfred Westmacott, who was Managing Director of Woodnutts Boatyard at St Helens on the Isle of Wight. He specialised in building small day racing boats and these included the Seaview Mermaid, Solent Sunbeam and Victory. Racing first took place in Southampton Water in 1911, as this was the first race it has been decided to celebrate the 100th anniversary in 2011. The main celebrations will be at Cowes during Cowes Week 2011 (6th to 13th August), when it is planned to have a special Centenary race or races, for which the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Poole Harbour have offered to provide a special trophy, for it was the Royal Motor Yacht Club, then based at Hythe, that hosted the first race of the Class. Between 1962-1987 Lallows have built 28 X boats and have had 86 Cowes Week Winners out of 343 races and 14 boats have won the captains cup which is awarded to the most successful owner during Cowes Week since 1930. Lallows is 1 of only 2 yards left with a licence to build X boats. The Lallows build has a proven track record of winning boats and we are currently looking to build 3 New Boats for the 2010 season ready for the 2011 centenary celebrations. We are close to signing contracts to build 2 new XODs we would like to build three at one time as this makes economics of boat construction very much better the new boats will have Mahogany planking with iroko deadwood. the stem and horn timber will be in Oak. The boats will of coarse all be reguarly checked by the official measurer. The complete boat excluding VAT and sails will be produced for £42,500 Any Pre payments before the end of 2009 will be charged at 15% Vat. Anyone interested in a new XOD for 2010 please contact Clare Lallow on 01983292112.
